Surf Getaways announces partnership with distributors of the film Girls Cant Surf.

Today Surf Getaways is excited to announce its national partnership with Madman Films to bring you the untold story of how a band of renegade surfer girls changed the focus of women in surfing in the 1980’s and paved the way for business like Surf Getaways to develop.

As a supporter of women in surfing Surf Getaways hopes by supporting this film and encouraging people to go and see it, they will highlight the challenges women have had in progressing at every level in an industry dominated by male players both in and out of the water.

All our team are very aware of the challenges that have gone before them and continue to influence the accessibility of surfing as a fun activity for women. We like the women of this film, are on a mission to change that!

Surf Getaways is the only surf travel and learn to surf company in the world that is founded by women, where all coaches and tour guides are women and where all the programs are designed by women for how women learn.

Our team believe they demonstrate that surfing is something women of any age, capability, fitness level or background can do, and as a result encourage more women to get involved. In addition, Surf Getaways is also opening doors for careers for women in surfing as coaches or in other roles within the business helping develop leaders who can continue to deliver change across the surfing industry.

Surf Getaways celebrates all the women in the film and know they started the changes we are able to build on. We couldn’t be more proud of our involvement with the team that made the film and all the girls who are in it, especially Pam Burridge and Pauline Menczer who are also Surf Getaways Ambassadors.

We encourage everyone to see this film. Its much more than a film about surfing!

From Australian filmmaker Christopher Nelius, this is the untold story of how a band of renegade surfer girls in the 1980's fought to create their own professional sport, changing surf culture forever

It’s the 1980s and the world of professional surfing is a circus of fluoro colours, peroxide hair and radical male egos. Girls Can't Surf follows the journey of a band of renegade female surfers who took on the male-dominated professional surfing world to achieve equality and change the sport forever.

Featuring surfing greats Layne Beachley, Jodie Cooper, Frieda Zamba, Lisa Andersen, Wendy Botha and Surf Getaways ambassadors Pauline Menczer and Pam Burridge, Girls Can't Surf is a wild ride of clashing personalities, sexism, adventure and heartbreak, with each woman fighting against the odds to make their dreams of competing a reality.

Madman Entertainment has today also announced that surfing world champions Layne Beachley, Pam Burridge, Pauline Menczer, Jodie Cooper and Wendy Botha will embark on a national Q&A tour ahead of the highly anticipated theatrical release of Girls Can't Surf on March 11.
